Cruises from Galveston · Houston-area travel advisor

Skip the airport. Drive to your cruise.

Galveston is the only cruise home port in Texas. For most Houston-area folks, that means you load up the car, head down I-45, and you're at the pier. I'll help y'all pick the line, the ship, and the room so your first cruise goes right.

Galveston at a glance

Why Galveston

Houston folks have it easy

Plenty of folks have to fly to catch a cruise. Y'all can leave the house in the morning and be on board that same afternoon.

Drive, don't fly

No flights to book and no connections to miss. Pack what fits in the car and head south.

An easier first cruise

Fewer moving parts makes for a calmer first trip. I'll walk you through sail day from Houston, step by step.

Bring the whole family

Grandparents, kids, cousins. Everybody drives in and meets at the pier, which is why Galveston works so well for families.

Port tips

Galveston tips for first-timers

The little things that make sail day smooth. I'll go over all of it with you before you sail.

1. Know your terminal

Galveston has four cruise terminals: 10, 16, 25 and 28. Some lines use more than one, so check your boarding pass before you leave the house.

2. Decide on parking early

The port runs its own lots. Some are a short walk from the terminal, and some have a free shuttle, and you can reserve online ahead of time (they take cards only). Drop your bags with the porters at the terminal first, then go park. Or just get dropped off. I'll help you pick.

3. Think about a night before

Coming from farther out? A hotel night in Galveston takes the rush out of sail-day morning. I can book that too.

4. Hand-carry the important stuff

Medications, IDs, and travel documents ride with you in your carry-on, not in the bags you hand to the porters at the curb.

5. Show up in your check-in window

Your cruise line gives you an arrival time when you check in online. I'll make sure you know yours. Leave at least 30 extra minutes for traffic on I-45 and the causeway.

6. Ask what's included

Your fare covers a lot, but not everything. I'll walk you through what's extra before you pay a dime.
